When Is The Best Time To Transplant Azaleas

The best time to transplant azaleas is in the fall (usually October through November). During this time, their roots are still dormant and they can be transplanted with little or no harm to them. If you wait until spring, their roots will have started growing and may not be able to support the weight of a new plant and its root ball (which would cause it to topple over)…plus if your weather starts getting too hot during that period, their leaves could start dying from extreme heat buildup. Also note that sometimes our winters get pretty cold here in Michigan so I think maybe waiting until next year might not be such a bad idea either!
