When Is The Best Time To Put Out Hummingbird Feeders

Hummingbirds are most active during the morning and evening hours. The best time to put out hummingbird feeders is when they are still napping, but before they get hungry again. For example, for some species like Ruby-throated Hummingbirds it works well to leave out their nectar during the early part of the day (around 8am or 9am), then refill them at dusk (7pm or later). Other species will eat throughout the day, so you’ll need more than one type of feeder!

This recommendation doesn’t apply to all backyard birds – see what works best for your local birds by trying a variety of times and types of food in different areas around your yard. As always, please enjoy these beautiful creatures responsibly – don’t overfill your feeders!
