When Is The Best Time To Prune Back Crepe Myrtles

The best time of year to prune back crepe myrtles is spring, but you can start this task as early as December and continue it through the summer and even late fall. Before you begin any pruning on your crepe myrtle tree, use a ladder or stand on some sort of step stool so that you aren’t trying to balance yourself out while pulling off dead branches from your treasured plant. After each branch has been removed from the tree, wrap the cut end with a cloth bandage or rubber band so that it doesn’t dry out quickly. You should also remove all leaves from the stem so that no pests will be attracted to them and cause damage to other plants in your garden.
