Iris bulbs do best in full sun, but they will grow in light shade if the plants are well-established. The bulbs can be planted anytime after all danger of frost has passed. Plant them 12 to 18 inches apart for good results, and leave at least 3 feet between rows for adequate air circulation.
How deep should I bury my iris roots?
You need to dig down about 4 times as far as you are tall to make sure your iris roots have enough room to grow before transplanting them outside. Simply dig a hole large enough for the root ball of each bulb, then put it back into its container until time to plant it outdoors again next spring, or where ever you plan on growing your other perennials during the year that follows this one!
