When Is The Best Time To Pick Pecans

Pecans can be harvested from January to April, depending on the soil conditions and climate. However the longer they remain in storage, the higher their quality declines. You should pick them before they turn soft or begin to shrivel so that you do not lose any of your money’s worth! The best time for picking is between June and September when they are ripe but still hard and greenish-white in color. The second best choice would be October to May when pecans become harder and darker in color yet still firm. If you don’t need a specific quantity of pecans like I did, then buying pecan halves (which contain more nuts than slices) instead of whole ones will save you money because each half contains 2-3 full sized nuts!
