When Is The Best Time To Change An Ostomy Pouch

It’s important to change your ostomy pouch as often as required. This is usually every 2-4 days, but may vary between different types of pouches or depending on how you are doing with the skin irritation. Once the skin begins to break down it can get very sore and inflamed. If this happens don’t wait around for it to heal! Depending on what type of pouch you have, you will be able to see the waste inside the bag flushing out through a tube once per day – if this isn’t happening clean your pouch monthly with warm water and soap, dry well before placing back in position. Many people find they need to change their pouches more frequently than normal during cold weather or after exposure to freezing temperatures – although this varies from person to person!
