The best time to apply is when you know you want to be a doctor and that you have what it takes. People who just think they might like medicine don’t do as well as those who truly love the profession. If you’re not sure, wait until after medical school. We recommend applying in your final year of medical school (and even then we encourage applicants to keep an open mind). Apply early on for scholarship consideration if you are eligible. A few schools require applications from their own applicants before accepting applications from non-schools, so make sure this isn’t one of them! In addition, many programs offer scholarships based on performance or need which will show up as part of your MCAT score, GPA and letters of recommendation.
